Question, Without assumption, did Adam/Noah/Moses/Abraham et al receive the ‘gift of the Holy Ghost’ when they were baptized? I know that when John the Baptist was baptizing, and when he baptized the Savior. he then re-baptized those he had baptized before and confirmed them with the Holy Ghost as a constant companion.

Cheri,

Our scriptures provide us with insight that Adam was baptized and Adam did receive the Holy Ghost.

Adam’s baptism and reception of the Holy Ghost is further witnessed within the Pearl of Great Price, Moses 6:61-66, as the Lord declares in scripture, “And he heard a voice out of heaven, saying: Thou art baptized with fire, and with the Holy Ghost. This is the record of the Father, and the Son, from henceforth and forever;”

In correlation with Adam receiving the Holy Ghost, we know Noah was familiar with baptism and receiving the Holy Ghost as discovered in these verses, Moses 8:23-24, which specifies that Noah preached baptism and receiving the Holy Ghost. I would propose that it would be hard to teach the necessity of ordinances (baptism and the Holy Ghost) without first receiving the ordinances themselves.

In light of these verses, and in light of other scriptures specifying the importance of being baptized and receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, I don’t believe it would be an assumption to witness that all of God’s holy prophets, his servants, were baptized and did receive the Holy Ghost who knew of the doctrine and taught it.

When you speak of John the Baptist and individuals who were baptized again, I john_baptizingwonder if you are actually referring to Acts 19:1-6? These individuals were disciples of John the Baptist and whom had been baptized by John; although, they had been baptized by John the record provides Paul baptizing these twelve men again and then he layed his hands on their heads and the Holy Ghost fell upon them. I don’t believe we have any record of John performing a baptism on someone he previously baptized.
