Question

Dear Gramps,

I am a single middle age sister very active in the Mormon Church. The question I have is that I am thinking of adopting an orphan and I wonder, can I have that child sealed to me? And if not, what happens to that child and myself as an eternal family…..

Debi

Answer

Dear Debi,

Children may only be sealed to couples who themselves have been sealed as husband and wife. It is comforting to note, however, that although we live in the present, the present continually evolves from the future. So, although you may be single now, that state need not continue for eternity. The Lord is faithful and true to all his promises. If you have received your endowments, and live worthily you will receive every blessing promised in the endowment, some of which cannot be realized without an eternal companion.

So, whether you choose a companion in mortality or in the resurrection, mortality is but a moment and eternity is forever.
