Question

Dear Gramps,

A friend is asking for my advice on what her life or all life in general is about.  She is not religious and I’m not sure how to tell her without including the most religion based parts. Can you help me?

Stevie

Answer

Dear Stevie,

Why would you not want to include the most religious based parts in your explanation of the purpose of life? Without the religious based parts there is no explanation. This would represent a marvelous opportunity to introduce your friend to the principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ as taught in Mormonism.

There are cases where it is encouraging to encounter those who claim not to be religious. Some such people are indeed religious, but just can’t believe any of the various religious doctrines to which they have been exposed. The Lord has said in the Doctrine and Covenants 123:12 that

… there are many yet on the earth among all sects, parties, and denominations, who are blinded by the subtle craftiness of men, whereby they lie in wait to deceive, and who are only kept from the truth because they know not where to find it–
