I am a 21 year old female, and interested in learning more and possibly joining The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I have never been religious, but I have been looking for something that fits me. I don’t believe in sex before marriage, and I don’t believe in drinking alcohol or anything that alters the mind. I find that most people just look at me strangely for these beliefs, and this is a religion with these as core values. From what I have learned so far I think this is for me, (I don’t just mean the above, but a few conversations I have had with other members has contributed to this as well). Is it too late? Am I too old? If not, how do I go about this journey, and what is involved?

Dear Question Girl,
It is never too late and you are never too old to come to the Savior, and to accept and live His teachings that are designed to produce happiness in this life and the hope of eternal life in the world to come.
I would suggest three things that you might do to further investigate the Mormon Church to determine in your own mind that it is indeed the true and living Church of the Savior, and has the power to propel you to the highest realms of glory in the eternal worlds to come.
1) You may find a Ward (local congregation) of the Mormon Church near where you live. If so, I would suggest that you begin attending the Church meetings on Sunday, and affiliate yourself with the YSA organization–Young Single Adults. This is an activity organization in the church for single adults between the ages fo 18 and 30. You would find yourself most welcome to the group. There are half a dozen programs sponsored by the YSA that are designed to promote the social welfare of this age group.
2) Get in touch with the Mormon Missionaries who will discuss with you the basic principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ. You may inquire for them at the Ward you would be attending, or you could look them up in the telephone directory. They have prepared a set of six discussions that take about an hour each that will review for you all the basic principles of the gospel, and actually prepare you for baptism when you feel that you would be ready to join the church.
3) Acquire a copy of and read the Book of Mormon. This is a body of scripture that was written by the ancient inhabitants of the American continent. It was written on metal plates, and delivered to the prophet Joseph Smith by an angel from God. Joseph Smith translated the record into the English language by the gift and power of God. It contains the fullness of the gospel of Jesus Christ and confirms the veracity of the Bible. It has been said of this book that “it is the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion, and that a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book.”
