Dear Gramps,
I think I remember you saying that those that die are right here on this planet. We can’t see them but my question is can they see us?
Joan, from Universal City, Texas

Dear Joan,
Indeed, the post-mortal spirits can see into mortality. Their vision is not inhibited. They even can read our thoughts. Here are a couple of quotes from Presidents Joseph Smith and Brigham Young that declare that very doctrine—

“When men are prepared, they are better off to go hence. . . . The spirits of the just are exalted to a greater and more glorious work; hence they are blessed in their departure to the world of spirits. Enveloped in flaming fire, they are not far from us, and know and understand our thoughts, feelings, and motions, and are often pained therewith” (Joseph Smith, Discourses of the Prophet Joseph Smith, compiled by Alma P. Burton, p.128).

“Father Smith [Joseph Smith Sr.] and Carlos [Smith] and Brother [Edward] Partridge, yes, and every other good Saint, are just as busy in the spirit world as you and I are here. They can see us, but we cannot see them unless our eyes were opened.”(Joseph Smith, Discourses of the Prophet Joseph Smith, compiled by Alma P. Burton, p.128)
