Dear Gramps,

I have been feeling a deep hatered for a couple in our ward and have not attended church for almost 3 years because I can’t stand the sight of them. I have read every thing I can find on forgiveness to get past these feelings, but I haven’t cooled down degree toward them. I’m convenced I will never stop feeling this way toward them. I could say that I have forgiven them, to make people around me feel better, but in my heart nothing could be further from the truth, and would be a lie. I have never in my life ever had to deal with raw hate for someone, when people tell me to get over it, and move on, as hard as I try I’m not able to. I’v prayed,I’v fasted, and I’v read every book written on forgivness. Am I going to ever get past these feeling. any suggestions?

Tracie

Dear Tracie,

Please let these negative feelings go, forget whatever has happened to cause this hate to grow so strong within you and concentrate on what is really important in your life, your own eternal salvation and exaltation.  You have gone inactive and possibly lost your testimony because of these negative feelings.  Cast them away, regain your testimony, and turn back to the Lord and His ways.  You are concerning yourself with matters that are keeping you from progressing and shunning that which will bring true happiness.  In the 5th chapter of Matthew, after reciting the beatitudes, the Lord tells us that we need to live a higher law.    22 “But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall bein danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca,(suggesting contempt, derision.) shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.”  Later in the same chapter He indicates that it is better for us to lose an important part of our body than to commit sin. 29 “And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.  30 And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell

We need to live our lives in a manner that will bring us back to our Father in Heaven and  shun that which is negative and hinders our progression upward.  It is only when we “lose our lives for His sake, will we find it.”  Let us exert all our energies in living lives worthy of the Celestial Kingdom and let the Lord be the judge of everyone else, for His judgments will be just.
