The question probably should have read: What side would the church take in a civil war as a result of the government trying to take away our guns? Honestly, if they overturn the 2nd Amendment do we really have a nation anymore?

For the sake of multiple sides to this, the church has had success with severe restrictions on owning personal firearms including England, Australia, Japan, and Korea. There are several others as well. There is nothing inconsistent with being a church member and not owning a firearm. The church often stays out of political issues and I don't see why it would take much of a stand on something such as this. If anything it may (as it did with the issue of illegal immigration to the US) issue guidelines are whether or not someone following certain laws is eligible to participate in ordinances.

Going back the the Nazi Germany example given in Gramps' response. One of the first things Hitler and the Nazi party did was disarm the citizens. Even Jewish citizens who fought for Germany in WW1 were stripped of their weapons, including war relics, swords, and antique firearms. The communist party in Russia did the same thing as well. So I would remind people to not forget history, lest we repeat it.
