If a general authority speaks in conference it is going to be a lot different than if they speak to a worthy individual. Read Alma chapter 12. Scriptures such as the Book of Joseph are kept from the general membership of the Church because it is considered too sacred and that they as a people are not yet ready for it, it also contains a great deal of Temple related materials. Note that Elder Holland said that the Brethren wished that they could teach and reveal more to “us” but are unable due to the unworthy condition of the people. President Packer said that the Church leadership wag the tail of the Dog, but that the Church membership wag the entire dog. We as a Church are under condemnation according to President Benson for Pride and not accepting/loving/reading/studying etc what we already have so why would we be given more?, no one in authority has since lifted that condemnation even up until the present day. Read Doctrine and Covenants chapter 85 and 112 and Isaiah chapter 28 and especially read 3rd Nephi chapters 16 and 20 and 21 and realize it is talking about US. Most people have in the church replaced gentile values for spiritual values – money money money. The Lord says from his own house will the cleansing begin. Elder Perry recently in a ward talk said that a great division is coming within the Church.
