We are given instruction sets. He desires us not only to learn and use them, but to figure out how to use them in conjunction with each other. If he wanted individuals that merely followed instructions he would not have needed to give us freedom with its attendant costs. The instruction set of how to plan and then take our plans to him in prayer is a basic one. When we are instructed to look for the good that others offer it is yet another method of expanding our reach. The command to do many good things on our own squares these sets of planning aids and seeks to have us learn independent thoughts leading to actions of our own. Most of our lessons come in small pieces that we do not at first connect with each other. As truth is greater then falsehood and light is superior to darkness the instructions from the Lord are maximized to increase our reach through the gospel. We are indeed fortunate to have so many individuals that have internalized and learned to live by these things to serve as examples to us. "There is no salvation in an unused truth: it is only when men conform to the truth and make it a part of their very being that they advance and progress and finally qualify to return to the Eternal Presence."

will7370, I bet he doesn't tell us these things because the aren't pertinent to Gospel principles. It's a dangerous thing to be invested in the Church intellectually but not spiritually. But, maybe he reveals things to individuals based on their need (and not to the Church as a whole). The prophet wouldn't comment on things like your example because it's not edifying to the whole church. And her chastity won't be threatened because she didn't choose to be attacked.

I wonder if it is possible to learn from God the reality of UFOs, Aliens, Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, etc., or how dinosaurs and fossils fit into the creation story, etc. Or whether there are just some things that for whatever reason He intends to remain silent on and keep us in the dark? How much is God willing to give us? When a young woman is kidnapped and has her chastity threatened, can we go to the prophet and have him inquire of the Lord as to where she can be rescued? Or does God intend that we just "endure" it? How much is God willing to give us???
