Go to lds.org>media library for videos and audios of the scriptures. You can also check the library in your building for anything that might help (ie dvds, pictures with short descriptions on the back) or ask other ward members what they have that you can borrow.

When I was on my mission 45 years ago when I got to my first area, my senior companion was teaching a widow and her “old maid” daughter. They were very uneducated and lived in nothing but a shack in Virginia. I wrote home and told my parents that I thought that we as missionaries were wasting our time on this time. I got a letter right back from home, telling me that the Kingdom of God was full of the meek, humble and others who loved God but had learning difficulties and were are little children. “Of theirs is the Kingdom of God.”

Our oldest son suffered an illness causing him brain trauma two weeks before his 8th birthday. It is hard to assess mental capacity when someone can’t talk, but experts felt his mental age was between under one year. In his teen years, he received a Patriarchal Blessing. In his blessing, we were counseled to teach him the gospel as far as he would be able to learn. And given further counsel that music would be one avenue. We had already learned that soft music, and especially primary songs, would sooth him when he was agitated. I would imagine this man could benefit from music as well…and primary songs would be a good resource. I would also recommend the materials available from the distribution center for teaching children and most particularly the scripture story books and dvds.
