Hi Sefanie,
Having once walked a similar road, I would suggest that you look at the possibility that you may need to take some anti-depression or anti-anxiety medication. Many times are bodies are lacking in certain substances which control the way our brains function. Ofttimes, it is a medical situation which causes this type of hopeless thinking. Some people start medications, but do not continue them as instructed, or they do not consult their doctor if the medications aren't working.
There are answers out there, but you must take the first step in healing yourself by seeking professional help.
I love Gramps and all of the wisdom that he so kindly shares with us all!
Sincerely,
JED

Stefanie, My heart goes out to you fully and sincerely. As Gramps says well, God truly loves you and is reaching out after you and has a design maybe not yet visible to you. You are so honest in asking this question: Can I just cease to be? As I read your question, I want to ask you so many questions,.... What's behind your deep and honest question? Do you feel abandoned by God? Frustrated by your own sense of personal weaknesses? Not understood by others? Trapped by things that seem forever beyond your control? Unappreciated? Do you not like yourself? Sometimes things get so complex--people misjudge, confuse our intentions, don't get our desires to help... Sometimes those who have once been abandoned may feel altogether unloved--but having been insufficiently loved by one does not make us unlovable. Sometimes, the adversary lays it on thick and tells us we're just not celestial material...or whatever. He is really good at entering the living room of our minds in subtle ways and then discouraging us and eventually paralyzing us... Don't listen to him. Find the truth about your destiny, as Gramps has encouraged, by seeking your Patriarchal Blessing, and/or a priesthood blessing. Fasting and prayer may clear the cobwebs of feeling so low about yourself, or perhaps the temple perspective will empower and invigorate you. Feel free to ask Gramps more questions if you like, and feel free to also take a look at some hopeful podcasts at ibelievepodcast (There's one on discouragement; 6 Ways the Devil Rolls His Dice; one on not being abandoned by God, etc.) I don't know if any of these things will help, but I will be getting down on my knees to pray for you. I already have a feeling of caring for you. Thank you for being brave enough to ask your question. I don't think you're alone in asking it. Please don't give up on yourself. Love,
