Any man (it’s rare for a woman to be accused of this crime, but it has happened) who truly seeks repentance will fully confess his crime(s), not only to the Bishop and Stake President, but also to law enforcement and the courts, as applicable. He must endure whatever the court demands of him, be it imprisonment or confinement in the asylum, until he’s deemed fit to be released, if ever, and then strictly comply with his parole. AFAIK the leaders have strict reporting requirements per the laws of their respective states and Church policy, and supposedly there’s even a ‘hotline’ to advise them.

So, yes, it’s POSSIBLE, but it’s not EASY. Consider what his victim(s) has had to endure, and will endure for life, and I have little difficulty putting his feelings beneath those whom he’s harmed. If he can’t be found a suitable candidate for rebaptism in this life…well, too bad. The Lord will, in the end, do what’s right, and if this offender can, in the final judgment, be found ‘worthy to stand’, He will see that’s it happens.
