I would imagine it would be to dedicate it to it’s holy purposes. Just because a temple is dedicated with protections and safeguards in place doesn’t necessarily mean that evil is forever stopped from entering or that the temple cannot be defiled. We know that temples can be defiled and we even sometimes re-dedicate them. Jesus even cleaned one with a whip. There is no known canonized doctrine stating whether or not evil spirits or Satan can enter the temple, but certainly evil people can and, on occasion, do.
