A prayer by the mother, offered with the power of faith, is just as powerful as father's blessing.

Acts 10:34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: 35 But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.

1 Peter 3:12 For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: ...

James 5:15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. 16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

In reply to <a href="https://askgramps.org/can-use-husbands-priesthood-bless-child/#comment-35554">Robert</a>.

1. Yes, something is wrong here. This is a typical macho answer and I wonder why the Gramps moderator did not block it. To tell that sister that "something is wrong here" is more than just impolite. She loves her husband. He is her No. 1. She trusts him and knows his power of faith and relies on that (not on the priesthood only). He loves her and his children. You can tell by reading the question without macho glasses.

2. You judge this wonderful sister without knowing further circumstances. Maybe she lives 50 miles away from the next priesthood holder and she didn't dare to ask. Maybe she had asked before in a similar situation and the home teachers or whoever had turned her down. So why are you not a bit more considerate with your remarks?

3. As to your opinion that everybody who holds the priesthood can give a "powerful" blessing as directed by the spirit I disagree. Holding the priesthood alone doesn't mean a lot. If you have read the scriptures you will know that. Holding the priesthood and having the spirit with you are two separate things. And we also learn from the scriptures that different people have different gifts of the spirit, and certainly one of those gifts is to bless or heal others. So if you have someone around you who has that gift, why not choose him to give the blessing? Didn't even the apostles ask Christ: Mark 9:28 And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out?
29 And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.

4. Every person can give a blessing. A father can bless his wife and children. A wife can bless her husband and her children. If that person doesn't hold the priesthood, the blessing can not be given by the authority of the priesthood, A blessing will still be a blessing and will work according to the faith involved. Why should we want to exclude our wonderful wives from the priviledge of blessing others, especially their/our children?

Curious! Curious! Why “husband” only?, there are lot of male holding Melchizedek priesthood available where this wife can ask for, even her brother or father. As far as I consider, this priesthood represents Jesus Christ and it doesn’t matter whom one pick for doing certain kind of blessing. Suppose if a man need some kind of priesthood blessing, will he ask his “husband”? Something is wrong here!

I have heard this same thing, that a woman could bless her children through her husband's priesthood. It didn't make sense to me and I have not looked into it, though I've many times prayed with my own children in faith for them to be healed. I appreciate the answer and it seems to be in unison with the doctrine that's been taught to me at church and from my own study of the scriptures.
