"The USA doesn't regard tea as a normal part of every day life as they do in the UK, so the church, being USA led has little concept of the importance of tea in countries like the UK where it is integral to British culture."

I'm not sure if you're a member of the church or not, but whilst the church headquarters might be in the USA, The commandments and scriptures come from God, not the leaders of the church and I'm therefore pretty sure God is aware of British Culture.

Americans began drinking coffee to separate us from a main British custom. I have always thought the real reason for no coffee or tea was to say "We are in the world but not of the world.." Caffiene is in headache medicines, treatment for newborn babies with weak heartbeats, softdrinks including all flavors and colors , etc. This to me is a point of obedience as it immediately sets us apart from others at work, etc. , as "different" which takes a bit of courage to do. ae4gm

It is difficult to accept Regular Tea as on par with something like Coffee or tobacco. In the UK tests not only show it as beneficial but as the national drink in the UK it is always the first thing a host will offer when a vistor arrives. The ' tea break' is also enshrined in employment law.

Medicinally, Hot sweet tea. is the first thing given to someone in shock. The work in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition dispels the common belief that tea dehydrates.

Tea not only rehydrates as well as water does, but it can also protect against heart disease and some cancers, UK nutritionists found.

Experts believe flavonoids are the key ingredient in tea that promote health.

Looking through that Wikipedia article a little bit, I found the following:

"Non-tea-based variants may be prepared with herbal teas or with the South American beverage yerba mate."

So I would say be careful about what's in the ingredients of the chai tea you buy. If it's traditional chai, then Gramps is right. If it is something that is very clearly an herbal tea, you are probably okay adding simply the chai spices.
