In general, 'current' means just that, since support, especially on behalf of minor children, is intended to be paid in a TIMELY manner. Of course, amounts awarded for child AND spousal support often leave the obligor (note the terminology) with scarcely enough to get by on, and little if anything in reserve to cope with life's ups and downs, let alone payment of tithing, etc. Still, these are standards that the Lord expects us to meet, so...in light of I Nephi 3:7, rather than whine about how 'tough' it is, it's better to ask the Lord humbly for the means to meet ones obligation, AND there's no reason that one should have to sleep on a park bench in order to make his support payments.
If circumstances have overwhelmed you and you're finding yourself falling in arrears, by all means see your bishop's advice and assistance ASAP. He had the keys to help you with whatever is available to better your situation.
