For me, I've always believed that when it is said that we are created in God's image, that there is a far more complex answer. Now, obviously this hasn't happened, and probably never will happen. But what happens when aliens do in fact come to Earth--other intelligent creatures who exist in this universe. Were they created By God? If the answer is "yes", then why are they not created in God's image as well? My answer is that God created us after His intelligence. It makes sense to me. It makes sense as to why we must come here to this earth and gain bodies. From a scientific standpoint, we are diversifying the eternal gene pool. These universes exist not only as a sandbox that we reside in for our mortal test, but also as a means for our heavenly species to evolve.

Others Who have created universes for Their heavenly children possibly have different-looking beings. This thought process is important, because it not only confirms logically that life can exist in other worlds, but also confirms that evolution is a sacred tool used by our Heavenly Father to create all life in very beautiful ways. Our heavenly brothers and sisters on other planets likely do not look human (or possibly even remotely humanoid). But as God's children we are all "human" in this universe.

I've always been interested, and amused to think about this topic. We live on the very Earth that Christ was born and lived on. We can look at a map at see Jerusalem, look at pictures of places where Jesus would have lived and walked. How much more faith must it require to live on another Earth where they open their scriptures and read of Jesus, who lived "a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away..."
Maybe that's not exactly what their scriptures say. But there are two other scriptures/quotes that I'd add to Gramps' answer.
First is D&C 88. Starting in verse 43 it talks of "the earth and all the planets". Verse 47 says, "all these are kingdoms", and then verses 51-61 proceeds to give a parable of a man sending forth servants to work in multiple fields. Each of the fields represent "all of these kingdoms, and the inhabitants thereof" (verse 61). Read versus 51-61 thinking of each field as another Earth where children of God are living and learning of Christ.
Christ knows all of God's children, we are all his brothers and sisters, regardless of which planet we happen to live on, and Christ has visited them.
Second, this quote from President John Taylor, relative to Christ sending his servants to administer to those on other planets, and who some of those ministers might be: "It would appear that the translated residents of Enoch's city are under the direction of Jesus, who is the Creator of worlds: and that He, holding the keys of the government of other worlds, could, in His administrations to them, select the translated people of Enoch's Zion, if He thought proper, to perform a mission to these various planets, and as death had not passed upon them, they could be prepared by Him and made use of through the medium of Holy Priesthood to act as ambassadors, teachers, or messengers to those worlds over which Jesus holds the authority... Each kingdom, or planet, and the inhabitants thereof, were blessed with the visits and presence of their Creator, in their several times and seasons." (President John Taylor, The Mediation and Atonement, pg. 76-77)
