Mainly because we believe in eternal marriage and a woman who is not a member would not be able to follow him to the celestial kingdom after death. Also, unless he is sealed to his wife he will not be permitted to enter the highest level of that kingdom. Not a good idea for anyone to marry anyone who is not of their faith, regardless of what faith that is.

He has had three marriages and I don’t know if he is or can be sealed for eternity. I don’t want to marry anyone unless it is for eternity. Wife number one in temple, she divorced him, wife number 2 in temple, he was unfaithful, was excommunicated, divorced, wife number 3 civil only divorced her. He has since become a member again, rebaptized, but I don’t think fully restored yet. What sealings were lost. Wife 1 got remarried, wife 2 has not. Wife 3 was never sealed. I need to clearly understand this.
