Would someone who harbored secret doubts in Joseph’s calling as Prophet, or in his teachings, ever say such a thing? Who better than Emma to know of the truth of the work?

]]> https://askgramps.org/covenants-made-premortal-life/#comment-33131 Thu, 21 Aug 2014 07:43:00 +0000 http://en.elds.org/askgramps-org/?p=29446#comment-33131 When Emma Smith wrote out some of her deepest heart-felt feelings at the very time Joseph Smith was being taken to Carthage to face his assassins, she wrote, “I desire prudence…that I may wear a cheerful countenance, LIVE TO PERFORM ALL THE WORK THAT I COVENANTED TO PERFORM IN THE SPIRIT-WORLD and be a blessing to all who may in any wise need aught at my hands…” This, from the woman who was by Joseph’s side throughout the Restoration of the Gospel, and who was instructed more intimately in the Gospel than almost anybody else, makes me believe that the traditional teaching we in the Church continue to espouse of having made pre-mortal covenants to live the gospel comes from Joseph Smith himself.
