We can assume, therefore, that the Savior’s treatment by the Roman soldiers before His crucifixion was the most brutal ever inflicted by man upon the earth. So also, His apostles. Satan’s grudge against them may also reflect who they were before they were born, and the roles they played in the War in Heaven. Likewise today, those who were the most valiant in pre-earth life, and who have the greatest potential for doing good, are targeted for the most spiritual opposition in this life. We don’t hear most of the stories of what our General Authorities have gone through in their lives because of who they are and what they represent. Everyone who has the potential to be a great disturber of the Adversary’s work here on the earth will be buffeted quite a bit early on.
