It was a very dark night and no street lights present. He asked me about the Holy Ghost and how He worked in our lives. He also wanted to know the difference in the Gift of the Holy Ghost and the Influence of the Holy Ghost. As we drove I explained that one analogy could be like being on a dark path and having someone who owns a flashlight to occasionally shine the light on your dark path. Momentarily one could make a quick assessment.

As we drove, still discussing this subject, I was approaching a curve in the freeway I was careful to note that we were alone on our side of the highway, observed my speed and the lights revealed clearly that there were no obstacles in the roadway. Without letting him know what I was doing I quietly turned the lights off for a second. My friend put one hand on the dash and braced himself. “HEY! what happened?” It was clearly unsetteling to him. I asked him if he was more comfortable with the lights back on constantly clearly lighting the way of our highway. He said he sure was. Then I explained that the Influence of the Holy Ghost is like haveing light sometimes on our path and the Gift of the Holy Ghost is like giving him constant light on his path.

His wife was converted and they became active in Church and I was privilged to go through the temple with them.
