Dignity is a virtue! I can't think of any time that it could be considered a vice. You lose your dignity when you demand it. An example: You are being yelled at and insulted by someone in public and you do not retaliate or make a fuss. You politely excuse yourself from the situation. Or someone braves an illness with little complaining, gratitude for those around them and endures with grace and good humour. You don't/choose not to 'call someone out' ridicule or laugh at their misfortune that might embarrass them in front of others or may make them feel less of themselves. You protect someone's dignity by downplaying something that is awkward for them and assist them. You may do this by distracting others while this person cares for the problem, or by keeping them, as much as possilbe from the prying eyes of others. I'm sure others can come up with more examples.
