And I have to strongly disagree with you that the theory of evolution is on its way out. That is not a truth. In fact the more we learn, the more the data supports Darwin's theory. In this case, I believe Gramps is on the wrong side of what is right and true. He is the one that is defending a religious view of the creation. The creation story is not a literal happening. It is a story that helps us understand that God is behind all creation. I believe that God created heaven and earth. And I believe science is beginning to reveal just a tiny glimpse into the process of creation. And since God is eternal, time is unimportant. I believe God put all of this in motion billions and billions and billions of years ago (I am using a measurement of time that is only important to us, not God). And I believe evolution and change are part of this process. I think religion should focus on the spiritual needs of people and stay out of science. There is no reason at all for religion to define the age of the earth. Or even the actual origin of man for that matter. The story of Adam and Eve is to teach us that we are created in the image of God. Exactly when that creation occurred or even how it occurred is unimportant.

I don't believe there is an official position - science is left to scientists.

Everything is an evolution. Not only do I accept it as science (although admit that we do not yet know all of its secrets and perhaps never will) I believe it is God's handiwork. As I study DNA, I believe I am looking directly at the hand of God at work in the creation of life. We should not be afraid of science and discovery. God's handiwork is all out there for us to see and to learn.
