Actually, the church DOES encourage us to cry repentance to this perverse generation. Remember, it is called “every member a missionary.” How we live, raise our families, and lift others around us to do better is probably the most effective way to do that.

I have read about some church leaders who have yelled at members of their congregation in their offices or even called them equivalent to a modern-day Korihor. I’m sorry to say this, but I highly disagree with people who do this, just like people who picket places with signs. It doesn’t foster love, it fosters contention.

People know when you genuinely care about them, and when you show that love they will blossom and follow you, even if they are in the wrong and need to be reproved a bit at times (though “showing the way” by your own example speaks volumes compared to “telling people the way it is” and keeping your keister molded into the cushion of a chair). On the other hand, if you don’t show that love, good luck. The average person in this world will never follow someone who they don’t think has their best interests at heart.

In the scriptures it says this:

41 No power or influence can or ought to be maintained by virtue of the priesthood, only by persuasion, by long-suffering, by gentleness and meekness, and by love unfeigned;

42 By kindness, and pure knowledge, which shall greatly enlarge the soul without hypocrisy, and without guile—

43 Reproving betimes with sharpness, when moved upon by the Holy Ghost; and then showing forth afterwards an increase of love toward him whom thou hast reproved, lest he esteem thee to be his enemy;

44 That he may know that thy faithfulness is stronger than the cords of death.
