I have heard that the natural man does not necessarily need temptation from an outside force, that the natural body will tempt itelf. If this is true, we did not need a Satan, but one just so happened to elect himself. (Not that it answers your question.)

In reply to anony. I guess then, it begs the question: In taking the intelligences that are available and giving them spirit bodies, does God have to use all of them? Or can he just pick and choose which ones he knows will be successful, and leave the others out there floating forever with no further opportunity?

Why would a mother give birth to someone who later on became Hitler? The mother has absolutely no control over the choices their child makes with their free agency. They are only conceived in love, and have the best hopes and intentions for their child. I don’t think it’s any more difficult than that. Besides, all children when they are conceived, have the capacity to do many great things, as well as evil. Satan and Hitler both had an equal chance for an honorable and righteous future. They simply chose not to. Nothing the parent can do about that.

Abraham 3:22 He organized the intelligences, not created. They had no beginning and no end. Sounds like he was working with what he had in a sense.

God created our spirits, but our intelligences have existed for eternity. This is a key difference in LDS Doctrine v.s. other Christian Denominations. Satan’s “personality” therefore has existed since the beginning of time, and God did not create it.

Even before our spirits were formed, we existed with God from the beginning, perhaps in some form – maybe that form which they call “intelligences”/ That which has beginning should surely ave an end and we know that all men have immortal spirits. We can say that the ultimate creator of evil isI not our Heavenly and evil is not within his domain. But isn’t it that God is all powerful? Yes, because there is no other enitity in the universe that has power that could equal to His.

I’ve been pondering on this for a while as well, and have come to the same conclusion. I think on the scripture in Moses where Jesus is speaking to Enoch and weeping over the “residue of the people” who have not chosen him, though he has given them all knowledge of him. He knew they wouldn’t choose him, but he continued to bless and give to them. I do know that Eternity will be nothing like we imagine- because we CAN’T imagine it.
