In reply to <a href="https://askgramps.org/happens-debts-millenium/#comment-33006">Steele</a>.

I think the point of the question is that if Jesus was to return tomorrow, and we still have a debt to pay, whatever kind, will that debt be forgiven, even if you have only say one year left to pay on your car or hour house. For most people, debt is a necessity in order to provide for their family. Not everyone can pay cash for big ticket items that are necessary, and I am not talking about big screen TVs and such.

Thanks for that comment. I totally agree that what might be trivial to one is not trivial to the one asking the question. Also we don't know the reasoning behind the question. But that's what Gramps is here for. To answer questions that might come to our mind.

To Bro Steele. Although this question may be trivial to you it is, however, not trivial to the one asking. The answer brings out some interesting points. While you may be able to live within your means and be able to handle your finances properly, that does not mean that others can or do. No one is perfect and some people are not good at finances and/or a loss of a job, health problems etc. can also effect a persons income and ability to pay creditors. I know that Heavenly Father also takes these matters under consideration. To some degree I believe the creditor has an obligation to forgive a debt if they are able to do so.

I am constantly confused by these types of discussions and the time and effort wasted on speculative answers. This is fodder that has absolutely no relevance on a person's salvation.

Live by the direction we HAVE been given by latter-day Prophets - Live within your means and get out of debt as soon as possible. Make decisions based on the absolutely necessary things that will make the most difference in your life. A loan for school? Take it, get your education and use what you have learned to pay off the loan. Need to raise a family? If you have the means, take a loan and purchase your house. Not a mansion you cannot afford, but a home where you can manage your payments AND raise your family.

If we spend our time acting on the things we know we should do versus the time wasted worrying about the mysteries over which we have no control we will better prepare ourselves for the Second Coming.
