What a sincere question and fine response. Jim Faulconer wrote a great article comparing two missionaries in the field that is extremely insightful. Google the following to find it:

Slef-image, Self-love paper - James Faulconer

I think you'd enjoy it. It talks about two different missionaries--one focused on self-image and one who was un-self-conscious, and the impact of both of their forms of service. Love to hear what you think. I can tell you genuinely want to be all you can for the Lord; that said, this has some insights into the process, I believe.

What I've personally learned over the years is that the question morphs as we serve into, "How I can hear God's voice so He can do His work through an imperfect vessel like me.." rather than "How can I be the next..." As we lose ourselves....well, you know the rest. God bless you on your mission. I totally ditto the statements here about God choosing those who were inadequate but who depended upon Him and His Spirit continually, to do His greatest work.

Kindest,
