I am not sure you answered the question here, my impression was that the lady was asking how the church views those not married in the Temple. Many time two mormons will marry outside of the Temple, either because one or the other isn't worthy or else because they want to include non members of the family, especially if those members are the couple's own parents. Then there are places like the UK where a Temple marriage is not recognised in law, and the couple had to have a civil marriage or marry in the chapel, this is because all marriages must by law be open to the public- I think this is due to the part where it invites any one who knows just cause why they shouldn't be married. If the public were excluded then this safeguard could not take place. However, Temple Worthy mormons can then get a Temple sealing right away and not have to wait for the year specified for couples who have civil marriages elsewhere in the world.
