Ellie. I am aware that the church recognises that there are emotional health, spiritual health, psychological health, not only physical health. I relate to your comment as I have medication for depressive illness, and I notice that my medication does flatten emotional response to some degree. I'm not alarmed by that anymore because I've support of social worker or mental health professional who I've told about that and they have explained why and how the medication works etc. I encourage you to seek knowledge like that. I know the church is not against me being on medication for my depression.

After years of thinking I could cure my depression by being more faithful, service oriented, more Christlike, etc., I finally had a doctor that pointed out that it was a sickness, just like diabetes. It took a long time to get the right medications to fix my "problem" but now that I take them my life is bearable. As most people with depression, I miss the "highs" in life, but I sure don't miss the lows. I think every person being medicated thinks they can get off meds and be all better, but it is the constant treating that helps me to stay okay.

Jeffery Holland spoke about this in the October 2013 general conference. As one who struggles with depression as well, I found his talk very comforting. https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2013/10/like-a-broken-vessel?lang=eng&query=depression
