The upsetting point that gramps makes and I have never had an answer that satisfies me is, If i'm not married in the temple under the everlasting covenant in this life, I will not be able to achieve the highest degree of glory which is to have increase. I'm married to a non member who has vowed not to become one. I love her, and according to gramps, my love for her will damn me...not in those words but its what he is stating from D&C.

Why am i doing this!

That's one way of looking at it. Another way is the fact that no one becomes god except by becoming One with God, in the same way that Jesus Christ is One with God. For example with the Trinity there are two beings who are one with God, and there is one God. If there are 10 beings who are one with God, there is one God. If there are a thousand ( or insert your favorite number here) beings who are one with God, there is one God. So how many Gods are there? One.

I feel like Gramps evades the question here a little bit, but he does provide a couple of really good metaphors (especially the one about the caterpillars at the end) to come close to explaining the doctrine, as well as scriptural support.
