Well, Our spiritual parents are not always our genetic parents. We had lived as a family in our pre-mortal life (Sacred doctrine). In the Earth, our parents, brothers, sisters, partners and childrens could have been born in another genetic families. God decides how it will be. But for sure they will meet and live with us, at least, a part important of our lives. For example: That girl who has a best friend who looks like her brother? well, he is her real spiritual brother! Or that stepfather who cares about his stepdaughter? Well, he is her real spiritual father. You just should know that people of your spiritual family will meet you and live with you. It is our fate. You should not think if a child has bad genetic parents they are her true spiritual parents. That child will find her/his true spiritual parents in her/his lifetime and she/he will recognize them for sure. The church never will teach you about this, because it can disturb your free will and your fate. But they know about...

The scriptures teach that we choose to come down to mortality with all of the attendant challenges, suffering, risks, and opportunities in order to learn, work, and grow towards becoming more like our Heavenly Father. In that sense, we choose to come here and all the sons of God shouted for joy as is written in the book of Job. They do not teach that we were able to choose our specific circumstances, family members, etc. This teaching is not official doctrine of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has no place being taught as such in a church meeting. It is also inconsistent with statements from modern and past prophets and apostles regarding whether or not we have a "soul mate" as has been mentioned.

Since I have no children I guess no one wanted me to be their mother. This makes me feel pretty bad. I don't really believe we chose our parents. If so, why do so many abusive adults have children? Why would someone choose to go into an abusive family?

Many general authorities have spoken against the idea of a soul mate, including President Kimball and Elder Holland. I don't feel like your answer is consistent with this teaching. But I could be wrong. Do you think I'm missing something?
