I think it is important to recognize that the Universe, as known to mortals, is a temporal creation. The universe had a beginning--what physicists call the big bang. According to many physicists, it will have an end. God and Heaven are eternal in nature. Therefore they existed before the universe that we know, and will exist long after it is gone. It would be reasonable to assume that the universe as we know it, and everything in it are creations of God. He certainly can live within it. But there must be an eternal realm where God and Heaven exist that includes all of his creations--including our universe. I have a feeling that these kinds of ideas are impossible for temporal beings to really understand and describe. If we think of the eternal realm as heaven, then it might be accurate to say that all physical things (the whole universe) reside in heaven.

Perhaps part of the reason we can't really comprehend such things in our mortal state, is that we don't need to. Instead, we need to come to Christ through loving him and our fellow men--and showing that we do so by following his commandments. If we do that, all else that we need to know will be revealed to us as we are ready for it. For me, most that revelation will probably come after this mortal period of my existence.

My understanding is that it will be the Earth itself that inherits a celestial glory, and becomes the celestial kingdom, after the millennium. The Doctrine and Covenants are also clear that God does not "reside on a planet" as is commonly misrepresented of our doctrine in popular culture. There will probably have to me multiple worlds that inherit celestial glory, but we don't know anything about how salvation and exaltation will work for people on other planets. We may see a transformation of the moon as well as other planets too.
