A play is a play, you can't sanitise some one else's works, it is wrong to do that since they have written it. So either you refuse to act in it ( unless you are school and can't do that) or you portray the message as the play write intended. The audience have chosen to see the play as written by the author not to have it changed . I don't like swear words but most of them are just ways of emphasising anger or loss of some sort. The aetiology of most swear words is benign, it is just the way the public had developed them to mean something else.

Oh to be believed. I think his primary motive was letting you off the hook. Not to live that way. It was a personal letter and if you are to be believed- it was only for you. No one should live by what is your situation, or your personal guidance. I could not imagine Christ doing it, but that's my imagination. The End.

I came across this same problem when I was in college (BYU). In a speech class, I read a poem that had a mild profanity and my professor ripped me to shreds. At that time (more than 50 years ago), Joseph Fielding Smith had a column in the Improvement Era (that's what they called the Ensign back then) where he would answer questions, so I wrote to him and he sent me a response in the mail. Although I have long since lost his letter, I will never forget his words: "Please, let us not stand up so straight that we lean over backwards." He went on to say that people should not be condemned for words spoken in a play or a reading. I think Pres. Smith is a pretty good resource.
