I'm not sure his will be of any help, but I have experience with this problem. Like most people, I was terrified to speak in public, but I struggled until I overcame my discomfort. I joined a public speaking club in order to get more experience talking, and began speaking up in Sunday School classes. Eventually, I learned to actually love not only the experience of speaking, but the edification of preparing for the talk. My overcoming has paid dividends in my career, as well, and made me more comfortable around people in social situations. I would recommend trying to work through this very natural fear. The rewards can be immeasurable.
