I know that when a member marries someone who is not, they often compromise by going with each other to each persons church services. I have done this and find it the only honest way to have a full marriage with someone outside of the church, otherwise it is denying the other fully. Of course it is better to marry within the church but sometimes that isn't going to happen.

For the volunteer portion of the question - my answer would be a resounding YES! In one ward I used to live in one of my member friends was the backup piano/organist for the local methodist church. They loved him! They tried to pay him, but he refused the payment on a personal basis.

Another friend in that same ward was a secretary for a protestant church. Both of these friends had great testimonies of the restored gospel and used their talents to help other christians and as an example of what being a Mormon really is.

My wife and I are friends with one of the backup preachers at the local methodist church. We would go and attend when she would preach.

I now live in St George. My wife helps the local methodist church as an ASL interpreter for their deaf members once a month. They are a small church and can't afford an interpreter every week.

Being a member of the LDS church should not exclude you from helping other churches. Infact - how much stronger would our communities be if all of the LDS member went out of their way to help the other churches. They are not the enemy - they are our brothers and sisters doing the best they can with what they have been given.
