This is a wonderful answer, thank you! I also suffer from depression and have found that some callings have only made it worse, while others have helped. There is nothing wrong with telling a bishop that you would like time to prayerfully consult with the Lord before accepting the calling. I think most bishops would be happy to hear that! And then do so: pray carefully and consult with the Lord. Then make the decision that you feel is best in your current situation, ask the Lord if your decision is the correct one and then act appropriately. I agree with Gramps that callings are turned down all the time. I've been in wards where the same person held a calling for many years because although the Bishopric had called others to do the work, no one else would accept the calling. It's actually very common.

I suffer from depression but find my callings have helped, I remember about 10-15 years ago in a conference talk one of the apposiles said do not feel bad if you cannot fulfill a calling if your working to much or stressed over family or personal affairs the lord will understand, when you feel you are Abel to do a calling let the bishop know and maybe at that time things will be better in your life.
