That is one way. But when I started praying it was not about the Book of Mormon. That seems like a graduate level course when I was in elementary school. I had to start by asking if God even existed, because I really didn't think He did. I got an answer to that question. Many people do, in many, maybe even all religions. But the problem is that that is when most everyone stops in their search. They learn that God is real, and then just assume that the religion they grew up with, or the religion of their current adviser who told them to pray is the correct /true religion. I have asked many people from different religions if anyone ever challenged them to continue to ask and to be sure that their religion was The true church. As far as I can tell, no other church even thinks about getting the answer through prayer. They certainly don't keep pushing their members to pray until they 'know' that the church is true. That's the difference.

I'd have to concur with the original question to gramps. The Joseph Smith
theory of being a prophet is similar to the Muslim's belief that Mohammed is a prophet,

The Muslims are just as strongly convinced of Mohammed's visions and visits by
angelic beings and in his dreams that it seems to me similar to the Joseph Smith
story and his history.

I believe these men where entertaining spirits unaware of what and the reality
of who and what they were dealing with. I believe they were dealing with a spirit intelligence
...an entity who is smart, and powerful enough to present himself into the mind and senses of these men. This however does not mean they are the God of the bible,
and actually are counterproductive in that they have spawned these major religions
that attract earnest men and women and divide and confuse what is the truth of God and God's word.

Dear Gramps:

My husband and I are impressed with your answer to M.J. We both have unbelieving family members and are going to forward your response to them in the hopes that they will take up your challenge.

Thank you for all you do.
