If the Church leaders feel it necessary to add the unfortunate habit of “vaping” so that it’s OFFICIALLY on the “verboten” list, they can do so at anytime. However, I’m not sure it has to be commanded (see D&C 58:26,27) for someone to figure out that’s it’s probably a practice that shouldn’t be taken up of itself, though some may use it to break an addiction to smoking tobacco (or even weed, I have heard of vaping being used to curtail marijuana usage). The health effects haven’t been studied enough, IMO, to say that it’s safe, unlike tobacco, which has been extensively researched for decades. BTW, the first large-scale smoking cessation program was instituted by the Nazis in pre-war Germany (“Die Deutsches Frau raucht nicht!”), as it was preached as a sigh of “Jewish degeneracy”. I’d say, if, like the nicotine patches, it’s a recommended way to kick the tobacco habit, then do it, and then look to a way to tone that down. If you don’t smoke at all, it’s best not to vape either. And please consider the nature of many “establishments” (re: joints) that retail vaping paraphernalia and supplies. Many are simply glorified “head shops”, or even paired with a business selling so-called “medical marijuana”. Consider what type of folk frequent said establishments. Sure, THEY need the gospel, but we’re commanded to be IN the world, but not necessarily OF it.

I used vaping to get me off tobacco. It worked. There are many things in tobacco that are addictive, but now I am addicted to just nicotine. I know that I have to stop this and I will. I believe that I must obey the spirit of the law and not just the letter. My Bishop may be conducting my temple interview with a Diet Coke, on his desk, but I believe that everything I do, must please the Lord. No matter what others may do.
