I don't see legislation being a problem. Legislation could certainly help create more celestial conditions on this earth. The key to me is where does it become legislation and custom compared to oppressive and totalitarian. I don't believe for a minute the two are one in the same. Socialism that is run democratically and willingly by the people instead of forced on them by the barrel of a gun is no evil, nor a poor choice.

There is a huge difference between marxism and democratic socialism. One is atheistic, the other respects freedom of religion. One sees history through a purely materialistic view, the other embraces a plurality of views. One oppresses in the name of the oppressed, the other embraces true equality and true justice. One takes away agency, the other promotes it.

Marxism and Democratic Socialism are similar in the way an apple and a banana are both fruit, but they are radically different in many important, significant ways. And I feel honestly that it is a good thing to be a democratic socialist. More people should be democratic socialists. Certainly Latter-day saints. :)
