I think the prophet is really the only person privy to any seer stone anyone else trying to use them we are told will bring about their own damnation read your bible

Even now, with the witnesses and what has been written in the history of the church, ridicule abounds and even those that saw with their own eyes went into apostasy. Humans that are bent on “there is no God” find such items worthless. There’s enough mocking today concerning our religion and our beliefs. Why add fodder to the flames?

Does the LDS church not say much about these because of the media attention or because they are just stones unless the proper person uses them? Do they have any inherent abilities like the Jaredite stones?

Indeed too sacred. You can imagine the ridicule if they were put on public display in a museum or such.
