My uncle committed suicide and after the funeral my family got a letter from President Monson where in the letter he stated "It is my belief that one who takes a step to end his own life has often become so mentally clouded-for whatever reason- that he is no longer accountable for his actions. Although we cannot always comprehend why certain things happen, we can trust in the loving mercy of our Heavenly Father, who know and loves us and understands all of the illnesss and sorrows that trouble his children. I have also counseled families to avoid using the phrase "if only". Rather I encourage you to look forward with hope and faith in Atonement of Jesus Christ."
I hope that help a little, but my family found that to be very comforting in our time of grief.
