I posted this before I had read the very last paragraph of the article. (whoops) I am glad to see that Gramps suggests “seek[ing] out the Lord’s confirmation of their words”.

But then as soon as something gets pointed out that didn’t come to pass, or was completely false, this one will get quoted: “a prophet [is] a prophet only when he [is] acting as such.” Joseph Smith, in History of the Church, 5:265

That way the bases are covered no matter which direction things are currently pointed.
