"Yes, we think we are secure here in the chambers of these everlasting hills . . . but I want to say to you, my brethren, the time is coming when we will be mixed up in these now peaceful valleys to that extent that it will be difficult to tell the face of a Saint from the face of an enemy against the people of God. Then is the time to look out for the great sieve, for there will be a great sifting time, and many will fall. For I say unto you there is a test, a Test, a TEST coming, and who will be able to stand?." --Heber C. Kimball

In reply to <a href="https://askgramps.org/where-can-i-find-ezra-taft-bensons-talk-about-the-last-days/#comment-33319">Robert</a>.

I'm not so sure about the Constitution being preserved in Utah. Elder Brigham Young Jr. once stated that the latter-day saints will head back to Missouri to build up Zion and the "Mormons" will be left back in Utah to be controlled by a few latter-day saints who can keep them in check. It sounds to me like Utah is going to get as bad as the rest of the world.

Personally, I think if I were in Utah now, I would want to be in the first party to get out of there when the call came for the next "Zion's Camp" to take their march.

I hope I'm not stepping on any toes here, but when I see people in our church marching in gay pride parades and stuff in downtown Salt Lake City that is contrary to the laws of heaven, I don't want to be anywhere near ground zero when God decides to send another wake up call. Remember the 1999 tornado in downtown Salt Lake City? $170 million in damage for that one and how soon we forget.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1999_Salt_Lake_City_tornado

I don't think that was just a call to the ex-Mormons, non-Mormons, and jack Mormons. I think it was a call to EVERYONE there including the active members of the church.

Let me give you an example of what I mean by this. We have been commanded to marry and replenish this earth. How many singles wards do we have in Utah where people are just sitting around and not getting married or being too picky? Let me tell you what President Wilford Woodruff said about it:

“When the daughters of Zion are asked by the young men to join with them in marriage, instead of asking—‘Has this man a fine brick house, a span of fine horses and a fine carriage?’ they should ask—‘Is he a man of God? Has he the Spirit of God with him? Is he a Latter-day Saint? Does he pray? Has he got the Spirit upon him to qualify him to build up the kingdom?’ If he has that, never mind the carriage and brick house, take hold and unite yourselves together according to the law of God.”

Not getting married when we have a plentiful amount of available worthy temple recommend-holding Melchizedek priesthood holders and faithful sisters sitting next to each other in huge congregations all across Utah, because we don't want to be inconvenienced with not having a house, a hubby with a nice job, Miss America for our wife, a sweet ride, or plenty of money is akin to disobedience to the laws of God, too.

Frankly for me, marriage has been the KEY to learning how to be unselfish.
Marriage has also been the KEY to having someone I can rely on ALL THE TIME. And marriage has also been the KEY to doing my part to give God's children physical bodies. Even if I'm in poverty, I will have another child with my wife if that's what I am supposed to do. Why? Because God gave me two hands and he said to WORK WITH THEM. Yet so many people in our church are literally throwing away a golden opportunity right in front of them every Sunday. Do they honestly think when they earn more money or move out of Utah they're going to find a better pool of potential mates? I hate to say this, but the older you get and farther away you get from Utah, the slimmer pickings there are.

Another things we as members do is ignore the Book of Mormon. Let me repeat what President Ezra Taft Benson said:

"We must flood the earth with the Book of Mormon—and get out from under God’s condemnation for having treated it lightly. (See D&C 84:54–58.)"

The early saints treated it lightly and look where the church is today--in Salt Lake City when they should have been in Independence, Missouri. We were also too selfish to live the law of consecration then. The way I see it, we're going to be in that much more trouble if we keep going down the same road and WE ARE DOING IT TO OURSELVES.

You see, not only we as a church but Israel FAILED to learn one simple lesson: If you obey the Lord, you will NEVER be moved out of your place.
If we members of the church honestly think we are going to have anything to do with saving the Constitution, I am sure it will only be through obedience to ALL of God's laws FIRST. And right now, we have A LOT of catching up on obedience to do.

President Benson in another conference talk told us to read 3rd Nephi in the Book of Mormon, as it is a parallel for our day. The social conditions and spiritual state of the people in the years immediately preceding the Lord's visit will be similar to what we are going through prior to the Second Coming. A couple of examples; the righteous had to deal with the problem of the Gadianton Robbers. So also are we having to deal with terrorists. Their government collapsed immediately before the Lord's advent, so also can we expect our formal federal government to collapse before that great day. Prophecy has said that the US Constitution will only be preserved in small pockets throughout our land. Possibly in Utah alone.
