I grew up in Michigan and was blessed to learn about the church when I was 15. For the next 3 years, I attended early morning seminary. I got up at 4 am, picked up 3 other kids on the way, and drove to a seminary teachers house, then to school by 7 am. I loved it. I love the association with the other LDS kids as there were only a few of us in my school. We had a goal in seminary to read the scriptures every day, so I read a chapter of scriptures every morning before seminary. I also read a chapter every night to keep the spirit with me. To get up so early, I went to be around 9 pm. Was it hard to get up at 4 am? Yes, I usually had to kick one leg out of bed which would help me keep waking up. Was it a sacrifice? I never thought so, the privilege of learning about my Heavenly Father and feeling the Holy Spirit in my life was something new to me and I considered it nothing but a great blessing. With this schedule, I was able to read the Book of Mormon 5 times before my mission, the Bible once, and D&C a couple times which was a great help to me. My parents did not join the church- I did not have FHE or family scripture study, but I had seminary. I had good LDS friends. I had personal scripture study and prayer.

I thought this was a really good answer and learned that the standard works should be used as standard readers in school. I'm homeschooling for the time-being and thing I will certainly incorporate this.

Where I live, some districts have release time during the day for kids to attend seminary, but most do not. My kids all had to attend early morning seminary, which started at 5:50 - 6:00 am (depending on which building they attended at; one was closer to the school than the other). It is a sacrifice, but one which many seminary students seem glad to make. There are always exceptions, of course, just as with anything else.

out on the road. Bahahahahhaaaa. I got my 5 kids to seminary at the church at 6:45. However, I live only 4 minutes away. We live in KW, Ontario, Canada. Kids far away get a choice of that, or after church on Sunday, which DOESN'T seem like a productive option. In school is not an option. It is separate, distinct, gives a sense of community for all involved. Pretty sure we would not have accomplished family study at home at that time of day. I'm impressed with those who did. We did manage to say prayers (two different times each morning as kids went out the door).

I grew up in So. CA and we had two early opinions and three afternoon opinions for seminary.

And why do it in groups instead of alone? Have you met humans before? We are generally a social species even loaners do better in groups, we lean from each other, draw strength and stability. We uplift and encourage, challenge and motivate. It's why we mostly work in groups, educate in groups, worship in groups, socialize in groups, retire to group homes and attend church together. We go to school and educate in groups, heck we even die and for the most part attend to death in groups. Why would seminary be any different?
