That is one of your best posts. And it is the truth. There is no need to fight over the age of the earth or its creation. God is all knowing. And I can see God in the very large (the Universe) and in the very small (atoms). Creation is a process and the Lord understands and puts into motion the process of creation that has resulted in what we see today. It is our responsibility to learn, grow, understand and to have faith in the salvation promised.

Alma 12:9-10:
9 And now Alma began to expound these things unto him, saying: It is given unto many to know the mysteries of God; nevertheless they are laid under a strict command that they shall not impart only according to the portion of his word which he doth grant unto the children of men, according to the heed and diligence which they give unto him.
10 And therefore, he that will harden his heart, the same receiveth the lesser portion of the word; and he that will not harden his heart, to him is given the greater portion of the word, until it is given unto him to know the mysteries of God until he know them in full.

So many things have been discovered by astronomers (especially about 2000 exoplanets and counting...) in recent years that even in my lifetime the 'scientific' model of the Universe has undergone dramatic changes. As another poster recently indicated, it's part of the learning process. Besides, it'd be like needing a Master Degree in Mechanical Engineering (which I have) to drive a car. Life is sometimes like that...get in, sit down, be quiet, and hang on...!

Since part of the reason we are on this earth is to learn and grow, I imagine that the Lord doesn't tell us some things precisely because he wants us to try and figure it out for ourselves. This does mean that we will sometimes make errors in our discoveries, but that is part of learning and growing, to eventually learn from our mistakes as well.
