The very wording of Richard’s question reminds us that Abraham’s experience was “showing his obedience”. Which it absolutely was. And, although it pointed to Christ’s Atonement, Isaac didn’t have to pay any actual price. Christ’s experience and sacrifice was not just a test of obedience. He had an actual price to pay for each of us.
