I do get your point. I will relate an experience. When I was younger and living at home with parents I'd go into their bedroom in the morning in a really good, positive mood and say 'oh, it's such a nice sunny day, why don't you get up'. Sometimes there'd be no answer, but if there was the answer would be moaned 'I've not even had a brew yet'. In any case they were always sluggish in the mornings and my Dad very grumpy and used to stay in bed whilst I got ready for school alone inadequately through lack of supervision. Addiction is like worship, well, idolatry. And people can't function or don't believe they can function until they've had their ritual.

There is no ban. Tea and coffee are not banned. Rather, God has commanded us to not drink them. His commandments are spiritual.
Besides, the Word of Wisdom is not about health; health benefits of obeying the WoW are incidental. Like the law of tithing, which is more about faith than it is about money (after all, does the church really need the fifty cent's from a child's allowance?), the Word of Wisdom is primarily about faith and obedience. I think Elder Russell M. Nelson got it right when he said:

"Certainly modern medical research validates the physical benefits of obedience to the Word of Wisdom. The evidence is so great that many will be taught the right things for only half of the right reasons. With that limited understanding, could they then try a smoke, a drink, or a drug, rationalizing that “just one won’t hurt”? Could the prospect of only future physical rewards even be bait for foolish dares of defiance now? Or to phrase these questions another way, how many would be determined to obey the will of the Lord even if physical benefits were not assured? When God asked Abraham to offer Isaac in sacrifice, did they first seek scientific confirmation that their choice to obey was medically advisable?" ("Addiction or Freedom", October 1988 General Conference)

As an aside, apart from the coffee issue, Alzheimer's has also been referred to as "Type 3 Diabetes". My thinking is that the best way to prevent Alzheimer's is the old-fashioned way: healthy nutrition, regular exercise, sufficient sleep, and stress management. Those will do far more to prevent Alzheimer's, and promote overall health, than coffee.

Then there are all the studies, showing that Red wine, is good for our hearts. Now, it is available or rather the element that is good for use, Resveratrol, in capsule form as is green coffee supplement. Now, if the person wishes to take the supplement for health reasons, would this actually be permitted?

You ask, "will the church rescind the ban?" as if they put it in place in the first place. It was the Lord through revelation that put it in place to begin with, and only He alone can rescind it. Will the Lord rescind the ban? I don't know. Ask Him yourself.

Since the church has not lifted the ban on alcohol despite numerous studies showing the positive effects of a glass of wine on the heart, I would not expect the ban on coffee to be lifted.
