In reply to JTM157. The reference to the Chinese is not random but is taken from a book entitled Visions of Glory. The Chinese act in the name of the UN. I admire "gramp's" approach to answering questions, always done in the spirit of humility and with the intent to honestly assist others along their journey of gaining knowledge. I am disheartened by the tone taken by many of those who choose to participate in the discussion, too often arrogant and accusatory. There is nothing inherently wrong with questioning his sources and his interpretations, but to do so without humility and the spirit of brotherly kindness is fruitless to any discussion.

If President Hinckley was speaking literally, I’d like to know exactly what day the sun was darkened and exactly what night the moon turned to blood. If he was speaking symbolically, I’d like to know exactly what spiritual event took place that made those things occur. He didn’t mention either.

I believe he quoted Joel, chapter 2, verses 28-32, and simply forgot to end his statement after verse 30 before it talks about the sun and moon signs … events that we believe to be literal and have yet to take place.

It seems to me that human have a great imagination skill to create an enemy that is potential one to invade here. All I know is I don’t care till it actually happen if it does. All I care is something like doing family history research or doing my own hobbies.

Well, President Hinckley’s words sounded clear enough to me. “The vision of Joel has been fulfilled wherein he declared ….”. Either you believe he was a prophet of God or you don’t.

President Hinckley was confirming that the moon had turned to blood not that the sun had been darkened.

I do not believe President Hinckley was speaking literally of the moon turning to blood. His discussion was the general state of the world. This was a talk at conference shortly after 911. Emotions and tension were high. I believe you are reading more into than was intended. I do not believe for one minute that the Sun has been darkened and the moon has turn to blood yet. Those events are still in the future.
You analysis is jumping to a conclusion based on a speech that was talking in general about the end of the world after the Country had just experienced a very tragic event.
This is exactly how falsehoods are created and promoted in the Church. We have seen many such mistakes made in the past and we are continuing to see them to this day.
