The O.T. Institute Manual states that these two prophets will be captured and killed by the opposing army and their bodies will be left in the streets of Jerusalem for three and a half days as the forces of evil celebrate over their death.

Elder Bruce R. McConkie did indeed say that these two shall be members of the Council of the Twelve or the First Presidency. Much more detail is available in the second O.T. manual Page 293. Fascinating reading.

Regarding your previous answer on this subject, I 100% disagree it is the Jews who will actually kill these prophets. From what I read in the scriptures, I understand it will be those from the other nations around Israel and those who join them in their rampage of destruction.

There are a couple reasons for this:

1. Once the Jews build up Jerusalem and especially the 3rd temple on the temple mount (since that area is under the trust of Jordan), the whole Muslim region is likely going to go off like a match to a powder keg and be in “Let’s kill the Jews!” mode even more so than they already are. Unfortunately, with the way things are going, the UN is going to sit back and do nothing, so who is going to be left to defend the Jews besides themselves? America has in the last 50+ or so years been a bunch of weaklings in various presidencies and not stood up for our allies like they should, so I sure wouldn’t count on us.

This is also likely part of the reason why the Constitution will not be saved in Washington. If we as members of the church are not alarmed at how far our moral standards in society have eroded at this point, I think we need to do a serious reality check.

2. The way I interpret those scriptures in Revelation is that these two prophets will be holding off all the armies of the opposing nations and those who join them in order to protect the Jews while they fulfill their mission. Sure, some of the Jews won’t believe, but for them to kill the prophets who are keeping the world’s meanest neighbors from trying to kill them? That is unconscionable. And while I hate to say it, since I’m not Jewish myself… the IDF is actually the most moral army in the entire world right now. And whether we as people in the promised land want to believe it or not, the Jews are slowly but surely becoming a light unto the nations in their own way and I can only believe the Lord is preparing them to receive the gospel.

3. On lds.org it also says this about the 2 prophets:

“Armageddon: The Final Extremity

John showed that eventually the two prophets will be captured and killed by the opposing army, and their bodies will be left in the streets of Jerusalem for “three days and an half” as the forces of evil engage in a great celebration over their death (Revelation 11:9; see also Revelation 11:7–8, 10).

During the “three days and an half” that the prophets lie dead in the streets, the army will ravage the city of Jerusalem and the remaining population of Israel (Revelation 11:9). Elder Pratt explained: “After a struggle of three years and a half, they [Gog’s army] will at length succeed in destroying these two prophets and then overrunning much of the city; they will send gifts to each other because of the death of the two prophets, and in the meantime will not allow their dead bodies to be put in graves, but will suffer them to lie in the streets of Jerusalem three days and a half, during which time the armies of the Gentiles, consisting of many kindreds, tongues, and nations, passing through the city, plundering the Jews, will see their dead bodies lying in the street.” (Voice of Warning, p. 33.)”
