This is the tip of the iceberg as to what makes The Book of Mormon such a marvelous, groundbreaking, and revolutionary book. It is about a Christian people who lived before the time that Christ lived on earth. They were Christian in every sense of the word. They had the revelations and prophecies of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, they took upon themselves the name of Christ, they looked to Christ and his sacrifice for forgiveness of sins, they were filled with the Holy Ghost, etc. These are all things that the bulk of Christendom would tell us began with the New Testament. But The Book of Mormon makes it every clear that this exact same gospel has not changed since the beginning, ever since Adam. The only difference is that they looked forward to Christ and his sacrifice, we look to the past and remember it.

Everything causes confusion for people, because satan wants it that way. When people are confused they don't know what to believe, and he gets "his foot in the door" to stop us from seeing the truth behind the words. He will take any chance to confuse us. As long as we look to God for answers, we will always come to know the truth in the end.

I agree. People seem to forget that just as the KJV was translated into the English language of the early 1600's, the Book of Mormon was also translated into the English language of Joseph Smith's day, the mid 1800's. Just as other modern translations of the Bible are translated into the English language of today. I'm not sure why that causes confusion for some people.

It's always been hard for me to understand why this bothers people so much. No one complains that the Book of Mormon contains the word "city", even though "city" comes from French and Latin roots--and the Book of Mormon authors certainly didn't speak either language.

When you write something in English--or translate it into that language--you use words that your English-speaking audience will understand. Whether those English words happen have roots in other languages is wholly irrelevant.
